Section of Man's Hip Cloth
Hinggi is a two-panel cloth sewn into one wide cloth is designed to function in both present and future. The village of Hama Parengu maintains it’s animistic ties to the Marapu beliefs – still following the traditional ways of caring for the land and maintaining strong social ties.
The motif is called kambiha njara refers to the footprint of a horse. Ruha is a deer pattern that symbolizes the high caste or royals of Sumba. Mahang means lion is derived from the image of rampant lions found on Dutch coins. It represents power and bravery.
Warp ikat, single pattern, open fringe commercial cotton, natural dyes.
