Komben refers to a single cloth. This batik was made in Java for the Sumatra market. The border on this batik is typical of Sumatra cloths. Flora patters fill every bit of this stunning textile. Gold leaf was hand painted over the batik motifs at a later date to further enhance the value of the cloth. This was commonly done as families renewed their special textiles and further embellished them.
