Pillow and Cover

Pillow and Cover

This pillow is from a woman’s sarong made by the weavers of Palue which is a small island off Flores. People from Palue were forcibly relocated on Flores at the time of the central mountain on the island was erupting. The solid colour backing is made from linen or handspun cotton from Tuban and dyed with Ceriops tegal in the Threads of Life dye studio.

There are only cotton backing 3 and linen 5 of these unique pillows using this kind of unusual fabric – they would be exquisite on a couch– we can send the pillow without the Dacron stuffing and all you need is to get new Dacron and refill it. This makes shipping much less expensive.

Tied, dyed and woven by Laya in Onelako, Flores, 2019.
