Woman’s Shoulder Scarf

The shoulder cloth became used throughout the Indonesian Archipelago when the woman’s blouse called a kebaya became part of the national dress.

This textiles comes from the southern coast of Lembata island facing out to the Savu Sea. Most people on this coast line spend their time fishing. The motif on this textile is a patola or eight-rayed flower motif that was found on the Indian textiles that were part of the currency during the spice trade.
